Driftwood Hospitality has a proven track record of having successfully completed the acquisition and development of over 100 hotels. We are one of the top 10 largest owners/operators of hotels nationwide. We own and manage over 45 hotels across the United States accounting for more than 8000 rooms and 4000 employees.
Driftwood Hospitality Management (“DHM”) was formed by Lehman Brothers and David Buddemeyer, Chairman/CEO of Servico, one of the largest publicly traded Hospitality Management Companies in the US at the time.
DHM merged with Carlos Rodriguez’s Cardel Group, one of the fastest growing hotel owner/operators in Florida.
DHM buys out Lehman Brothers.
DHM makes JV Agreements worth over $1BB with Apollo,
Silverpeak, HIG, Carlyle and Fidelity.
DHM grows to over 30 hotels worldwide under management.
DHM executives form a related $40 Million private equity fund called Driftwood Acquisitions & Development, LP (DAD)

Carlos J. Rodriguez CEO
Joined the company in June 2003 to oversee Real Estate Development and Acquisitions, Raising Capital and Arrange Financing. Mr. Rodriguez was formerly Chairman and CEO of Cardel Hotels, a group of affiliated hotel management, ownership and development companies based in Miami, Florida. Rodriguez founded Cardel with one hotel in 1997; by 2001 he had expanded his company to five award-winning full- and limited-service properties in Florida plus a full-service beach resort in Costa Rica, a condominium hotel operation in Miami Beach, a restaurant development, and an innovative Vacation Club ownership program. Rodriguez holds an MBA from Duke University?s Fuqua School of Business, a BS in Economics from Vanderbilt University, and a Certificate in Hotel Management from Cornell University. Rodriguez also has Wall Street investment banking experience.
Carlos Rodriguez Jr.COO
Received degrees in Economics and International Business along with a certificate in markets and management from Duke University in 2009. After graduating, he was accepted as part of the Rotational Analyst program at LNR Property, the largest CMBS (Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities) special servicer, investor, and originator worldwide. This two-year program focused on the three main divisions of the company: Investment Management, Asset Management, and REO. After successfully completing the program, Rodriguez was promoted to an Associate overseeing a newly formed branch of the company dedicated to high volume transactions, special resolutions, and direct equity investments. Rodriguez then left LNR to pursue ground-up development with Driftwood Hospitality.
Pamela Smith Rodriguez Vice President of Corporate Treasury and Asset Management
Ms. Rodriguez worked closely with her husband, Carlos from 1996 through 2003 to build and grow their lodging development and management companies, Cardel Hotels LLC and the Cardel Hospitality Group. Rodriguez was actively involved in treasury and cash management, accounting operations, human resources, marketing/PR and investor relations. After Cardel merged with Driftwood Hospitality Management in 2003, she continued to have an active role in asset management for the company?s portfolio of lodging properties and other real estate ventures. Ms. Rodriguez holds an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, as well as a BA in Journalism and English from New York University. She has been an editor at Latin Finance magazine in Miami and a management consultant at TPF&C in New York.
Johannah Durow Vice President of Acquisitions
Johannah Durow is Vice President of Acquisitions at Driftwood Acquisitions & Development, where she is responsible for overseeing hotel acquisitions throughout the U.S. Ms. Durow assists the team in originating, underwriting, and performing due diligence on all hotel investments and has successfully closed over $250 million of investment volume. Prior to joining Driftwood in 2013, Ms. Durow worked for LNR Property, the largest CMBS special servicer, investor and originator worldwide, where she assessed and identified potential loan default risk and collaborated on loan work-out strategies. Ms. Durow received her Bachelor?s degree in Business Administration in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics and International Business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Alejandro Navia Sales and Marketing Director
Alejandro joined DAD as the EB-5 Director in 2015, he now serves as the Sales and Marketing Director, he is responsible for developing and implementing marketing and sales strategies for EB-5 and Equity products throughout all the regions, plans all advertising and PR efforts and drives the sales team to achieve company goals and expansion to new markets. Alejandro began as real estate investor in 2006 after a 7-year career in marketing. Before joining DAD he worked as a strategy consultant in US real estate investments for family offices, local banks and high net-worth individuals. During this time, he managed real estate investment transactions of more than $300 million in different asset classes. Alejandro is a graduate of Florida International University with degrees in Business Administration and International Business, and holds a real estate broker’s license in the State of Florida.
Andre SallesInvestment Sales Director
Andre Salles has 20 years of Business Development and Portfolio Management experience. Prior to joining DAD, he was Chief Commercial Officer for MetroRio, the company that holds the private concession for the Rio de Janeiro underground railway and is controlled by infrastructure group INVEPAR. Previously, he served as Portfolio Director at BRMALLS, where he was Responsible for Property Management, Leasing and Operations for 12 regional malls in Rio de Janeiro, with a net operating income of $188M and 3.7 million sq ft total GLA. Andre also served as Sales and Operations Manager for IBM. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from PUC-Rio and an extension in Marketing from Kellogg School of Management.
Daniel MeteyerSenior Analyst of New Development and Acquisitions
He joined DAD in July 2016 to facilitate underwriting and valuing new potential acquisition and development projects. Prior to joining DAD, Daniel was an Acquisitions and Development Analyst with The Buccini/Pollin Group (BPG) in Washington D.C. At BPG, Daniel worked within their Hospitality Division where he focused on new hotel acquisitions and developments, in addition to working with the Portfolio Management Division. Prior to working with BPG, Daniel was an Investment Valuation Analyst with Guggenheim Investment and an Index Analyst for NASDAQ OMX. Daniel received his BA from Florida State University and a Masters in Real Estate and Infrastructure with a Concentration in Finance and Acquisitions from Johns Hopkins University.
Juan VictoryProject Manager
Recently incorporated into our Project Management Team to collaborate with the Supervision of the growing number of construction projects in our pipeline, with the objective not only of controlling cost and quality during construction, but also to participate in the design process of projects in order to optimize and achieve Value Engineering savings. Previously, he served as Project Manager for RodBlu Investments in our Condo Developments in Costa Rica. He holds a Civil Engineering degree and Master of Science in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA.
Ed MirandaDriftwood Acquisitions & Development’s Owner Liaison
Ed Miranda is Driftwood Acquisitions & Development’s Owner Liaison, and is responsible for providing vital operational and financial information from its management affiliate to DAD executives and general partners for its expanding portfolio of hotel properties. He is based at the firm’s Coral Gables office and reports to the CEO, Carlos Rodriguez. Ed brings over 22 years of hospitality experience to the firm having worked closely with senior executives and hotel ownership groups including The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, LXR Luxury Resorts (an affiliate of The Blackstone Group), OTO Development, and Hospitality Investors Group.
Margaret LeonConstruction Manager
Margaret Leon handles all new construction related hotel projects for the company and acts as the Owner?s Representative during all phases of the development. Prior to joining the DAD team Margaret was the Director of Operations for Driftwood Hospitality Management for 10 year, analyzing the day-to-day operations of each property, while also handling all coordination during the acquisition and disposition of Driftwood hotels, conducting due diligence on new purchases or sales of assets, finalizing new builds, renovations and rebranding of hotels, and working with other management companies and ownership groups to facilitate smooth transitions. Margaret brings over 20 years of hospitality field experience to her role as Director of Operations, having worked as the General Manager for several full-service properties during her tenure at Lodgian Hotels.
Ariel YaariEB-5 Regional Manager
He joined DAD in May 2016 to facilitate foreign investors to join the opportunities of the US hotel investment market, specially EB-5. Prior to joining DAD, Ariel was Regional Development Superintendent at Latinn Hotels. Ariel negotiated the investment structure with private and institutional investors and developers in many regions of Brazil. Prior of Latinn Hotels, Ariel was Development Director of Slaviero Hotels and Event Director of BSH International.Ariel received his BA in Business Management from Universidade de Taubat?, post graduated in Tourism Planning and Marketing (SENAC), MBA (Business Management) by FGV (Funda??o Get?lio Vargas).
